Ripple Scarf

I’ve made this scarf in so many colors in both worsted and dk weight. I love using a good variegated to see how it naturally pools colors in this shape, you could definitely make it with a solid color. As with most of my patterns, I made basically all of my ripple scarves with Sewrella Yarn Classic Worsted or Sewrella Yarn Classic DK. (Can you tell that I MIGHT have a favorite indie hand dyer?)

This pattern follows the same row repeating until you run out of yarn or reach desired length. It is intended to use a whole skein of worsted weight yarn. It’s a simple motif of increases and decreases within every row to make the ripples

I am also selling scarves made in this pattern. You may sell scarves made in this pattern but please tag K &S Knits if you do so. Please also consider posting your finished scarf on Ravelry, so I can see how it turned out!

Gauge

16 st in ripple pattern x 8 rows = 4″ (10 cm) square

Materials

  • 1 skein worsted yarn (206 yd/100g)
  • US H-8 (5.00mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 1 tapestry needle to weave in ends

Stitches Used (US terms)

ch – chain
st – stitch
yo – yarn over
dc – double crochet
dc2tog – double crochet two together
fo – fasten off

Notes

  • This scarf will look super short before blocking. I suggest hand washing with a wool wash and wet blocking to stretch to its finished size
  • Beginning ch 3 counts as 1 dc
  • dc2tog: yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up 1 loop, yo, pull up 2 loops (2 loops remain). yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up 1 loop, yo, pull up 2 loops, yo, pull through remaining 3 loops
  • Alternative materials: This scarf can also be made with DK weight yarn (228yd/100g) and a US size G (4.00mm) crochet hook with similar results.

Pattern

ch 24

Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook. (3 skipped ch count as 1 dc), dc in next 2 ch, dc2tog twice, dc in next 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, dc2tog twice, dc in next 2 ch, 2dc in last ch

Row 2: ch3, dc in same st, dc in next 2 st, dc2tog twice, dc in next 3 st, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 3 st, dc2tog twice, dc in next st, 2 dc in 3rd ch of the starting ch from previous row

Repeat Row 2 until skein is used up or desired length reached. Keep in mind that the scarf will stretch to almost 1.5 times the length once blocked.

FO, weave in all ends, and block to size.
